Fairfield is a city located in Jefferson County- Alabama. In 1907- the Tennessee Coal- Iron- and Railroad Company (TCI) planned the town of Corey for 15-000 of its employees. The town was originally named for a TCI executive but was quickly changed to Fairfield. Founded as a model city- Fairfield is still something special. "Fairfield is an older city moving in a new direction-" a slogan still proudly boasted today. Today- the city of 13-000 has even more reasons to feel special. Recent years have sown seeds for success- with a revenue base that has grown more than 80 percent in the past few years from $4.6 million to more than $8 million. Government The city is governed by a Mayor and City Council. Six council members are elected from districts- while the Mayor and Council President are elected at large. City Hall is located on Gary Avenue. |
